Kathryn watched him wide-eyed, fear flashing in her eyes, but still she kept quiet, trusting him to find a way to save her.
The same fear was mirrored in Chakotay's eyes, though, as his hold on her began to loosen. He fought against it with all his might, but to no avail. Kathryn was literally slipping through his fingers, and there was absolutely nothing he could do about it!
Chakotay's eyes conveyed his agony as his fingers eventually lost contact with hers. Then everything happened like in slow motion.
Kathryn's falling down.
Chakotay's following her - because he couldn't help it . . .
